Information on cookies and user settings

Cookies are small text files that are sent to the user's terminal equipment by visited websites; they are stored in the user's terminal equipment to be then re-transmitted to the websites on the user's subsequent visits to those websites. The purpose of the cookies is to remember the actions and preferences, such as the navigation language, so that it should not be asked again when the user navigates from one page to another of the same website or comes back later on. Cookies are therefore used to perform authentication, monitoring browsing sessions and keep the information of user activities for statistical purposes or advertising. When navigating a website, a user may happen to receive cookies from other websites or web servers, which are the so-called "third party" cookies. Cookies cannot collect any information stored on your computer or in your files. Cookies can be Session cookies (deleted automatically when you close the web browser) or permanent cookies, with or without an expiration date. The most common web browsers allow the deletion of cookies trough a manual command or automatically when closing the browser itself. The same browser can be configured (admin panel) to block the creation of cookies, in this case though the proper functioning of the website or the Internet service offered is no longer guaranteed. Under the legislation in force in Italy for the use of cookies ( three types of cookies were identified:

  • Technical Cookies
  • User Profiling Cookies
  • Third-party Cookies

Among the technical cookies, which do not require consent for their use, the Authority for the protection of personal data include:

  • analytics cookies used directly by the site operator to collect information, in an aggregate manner, on the number of users and how they visit the site;
  • navigation cookies or session cookies (eg. for authentication);
  • features cookies which allow the user to browse the website as per a set of selected criteria (such as language, or a wishlist) in order to improve the user’s experience. uses only technical and third party cookies.
